Terms of Use

By using NPISignal, you agree to the terms below. They are written in plain language on purpose — if anything here is unclear, treat the underlying idea as the intent: this is an independent service built on public government data, and it reports what those sources say rather than making determinations of its own.

What NPISignal is

NPISignal republishes and organizes public U.S. federal data about health care providers. See About and Data Sources for exactly what that means and where the data comes from.

Acceptable use

• Use NPISignal for lawful, legitimate purposes — looking up a provider, checking a number's format, browsing the directories, or screening people and organizations your own organization has a legitimate reason to screen.
• Do not use NPISignal to harass, stalk, or harm a specific individual, and do not use an exclusion search result to make a public claim about somebody.
• Do not attempt to disrupt the service, circumvent rate limiting, or scrape it at a volume that degrades it for other users. CMS and HHS-OIG publish the same underlying source files for free, direct bulk use — that is the appropriate path for large-scale or automated needs.

Accounts and your data

• You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for what the people you invite to your organization do with their access.
• You must have a legitimate basis for putting somebody on a roster, and for the identity information you supply about them. NPISignal does not verify that you do.
• Roster data belongs to your organization. NPISignal holds it on your behalf, does not sell it, does not publish it, and does not use it to build anything shown to anybody else.
• Do not upload a Social Security number, a tax identification number, or comparable sensitive identifiers. NPISignal has no column for them, refuses files that appear to contain them, and does not want them.
• You can export or delete your data at any time. Screening history and review decisions are append-only inside the product, because a record that can be edited is not an audit record.

What a screening result is and is not

A screening result is a statement about data, not a determination about a person. NPISignal reports what was found in the sources it holds, as of a stated date. It does not determine, certify or guarantee that any organization is compliant, that any individual is eligible to participate in a federal healthcare program, or that any two records describe the same person. Automated matching produces both false positives and false negatives, and NPISignal cannot verify identity using a Social Security number or an employer identification number — only the issuing agency can.

You are responsible for confirming anything consequential with the authoritative source before acting on it, and for every employment, contracting and billing decision you make. A source NPISignal could not reach is reported as unavailable, and an unavailable source is not a clean result.

Subscriptions and payment

• Paid plans are billed monthly in advance through Stripe. NPISignal never holds your card details.
• Plan limits — how many records may be monitored, how often screening may run automatically, how many people may sign in — are enforced by the service and are stated on the pricing page.
• You can cancel at any time. Cancelling stops recurring screening at the end of the paid period; your screening history, decisions and generated reports stay readable, because they are the record of work already done.
• Prices may change with notice. A change never applies to a period already paid for.

No warranty on the data

NPISignal is provided “as is.” The underlying government data can be incomplete, outdated, or self-reported by the provider without independent verification, as described on the Data Sources and Methodology pages. NPISignal makes no guarantee that any fact shown is current, complete, or error-free, and disclaims any warranty, express or implied, about accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or availability.

Not a substitute for professional verification

Nothing on NPISignal is medical, legal, or compliance advice, and nothing on it substitutes for credentialing, licensure verification, or a background check performed through the appropriate authority. See the Disclaimer page for the complete set of these limitations.

Intellectual property

The underlying government data is public information and is not owned by NPISignal. NPISignal's own compilation, organization, design, and written guide content are its own work product and may not be copied wholesale for a competing service.

Third-party links and advertising

NPISignal links to official government sources and other reference material, and may display third-party advertising. NPISignal is not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any linked site or advertiser.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, NPISignal is not liable for any decision made in reliance on information shown on the site or produced by a screening, including decisions about hiring, termination, contracting, referrals, billing, or credentialing — nor for a match it raised that turned out to be a different person, nor for one it did not raise. Use professional judgment and the appropriate authoritative source — the provider's state licensing board, NPPES itself, HHS-OIG, or SAM.gov — for anything consequential.

Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time; the date at the top of this page reflects the last revision. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
